Craig Keenan has created Very Small especially for Sound and Vision – our first group show of 2022. For the show, each artist has created an artwork in homage to the music that has inspired their work. This piece is available exclusively at Enter Gallery.
In the artwork, Keenan employs his signature cyanotype print style with hypnotic effect, immortalising the lyrics of Beatles track, Within You Without You . By pairing rolling clouds and mighty ocean with this poetic sentiment, Keenan s piece is a calming reminder to dance with the natural ebbs and flows of life.
Keenan explains the font chosen: The type I chose is reminiscent of old school posters or the Ladybird how things work books. I think this helps convey the enlightenment one can feel while listening to great music and learning about the universe.
The piece combines four of the five traditional elements in one piece: earth (via the trees and plants used to make the paper), sunlight (needed to expose cyanotypes), water (needed to Stop and Fix the prints)Â and gold (an elemental metal).Â
This cyanotype is hand-printed with gilded type, and is hand-finished with 24ct moon gold leaf. From a limited edition of 10, this piece is signed by the artist.
