If Peter Blake hadn t become an artist, he claims he would have tried to make it as a professional wrestler. His love for the theatre, fantasy and idea of good versus evil in the sport has resulted in a number of collections portraying wrestlers.
This series was created for his 2015 exhibition, Portraits and People. The series depicts Blake s very own band of fictional wrestlers. To give the impression his characters are famous, he has used features from celebrity faces to provoke a glimmer of recognition in the observer.
Each print combines three of Blake s favourite things; watercolour portraiture, typography, and flags. Covered in tattoos reminiscent of Blake s Tattooed People series, The Junkyard Dog hails from Poland.
This silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 75, signed by the artist.
