Nimenko is a New Zealand-born artist now living and working in rural Gloucestershire. She is known for arresting mixed-media collages, inspired by the natural world.

In this piece, Nimenko interprets a classic still life, juxtaposing skulls with figs and pomegranates to remind the observer of the fragility of life. This symbolism is a repeat motif seen across Nimenko’s oeuvre, and creates a surreal and timeless work.
