Oli Fowler has created Four On The Floor especially for Sound and Vision – our first group show of 2022. For the show, each artist has created an artwork in homage to the music that has inspired their work. This piece is available exclusively at Enter Gallery.
Explaining the inspiration behind the piece, Fowler explains:
Over the last year I ve been looking into the core styles of disco and dance music. I wondered if you were to strip any disco track right back to its rawest form, what would you be left with that all songs share?
I started by looking at music notes on sheet music, which lead me to the 4 4 beat, which in turn lead me to the phrase four on the floor – a phrase widely-used in the disco era. The term is derived from the basic way the bass drum is hit with the foot pedal 1-2-3-4€¦This beat forms the backbone for all disco tracks.  Â
This six-layer embossed silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 40, signed and numbered by the artist.
