Takashi Murakami is an acclaimed artist heralded as Japan’s answer to Andy Warhol.   Best known for his smiley flowers, his ‘superflat’ theory of art combines Japan’s love for cuteness with its traditional artistic styles and aesthetics.

Over the course of his career, Murakami has created multiple homages to Francis Bacon, and in particular his 1970 work, Studies of George Dyer and Isabel Rawsthorne.

In this 2016 homage, released as a diptych, Murakami interprets Bacon’s work using his signature colours and stylistic flourishes.

This offset lithograph is from a limited edition of 300, signed and numbered by the artist.
