RYCA is a leading contemporary artist known for entertaining artworks that play with motifs from popular culture, be that music, film or sweary sayings that have made it into the modern vernacular.
Ban-E-Land is RYCA’s play on Banksy’s infamous 2004 Di-Faced Tenner – a much-publicised stunt in which the mysterious street artist printed £1 million worth of ten pound notes with Princess Diana’s face in place of The Queen’s.
RYCA’s ten pound note includes multiple nods to rave culture. As well as replacing Queen Elizabeth’s face with that of an acid smiley, there is a reference to ecstasy pills, and 1988 – the year dubbed ‘the second summer of love’ after acid house swept the nation and changed youth culture forever.
From a limited edition of 100, this giclée print is hand-finished and comes signed and numbered by the artist.Â
