Dan Baldwin s Utopia marries bold abstraction with figurative illustration, layering imagination with real forms in a bright, pop-art influenced palette.
The swallow, a symbol of hope, and barbed wire are common motifs in Baldwin s work. Together they represent a struggle between liberty and imprisonment, mental or physical, and ultimately escape into the possibilities of the sky.
Utopia, Blue is a signed, limited edition silkscreen print. Available in an edition of 20, it is part of a series of three prints, also featuring Delirium and Infatuation.
The trio were created in homage to Andy Warhol s iconic flower paintings from the 1960 s:
It s a subtle nod to the master as he was one of the first artists that inspired me at art school in early 1990 s. This new way of making prints is an entire new exploration into print, and takes things to new places which is hugely inspiring.
