This piece is from Mike Edwards’ Startled Artist series, which he was inspired to create to communicate how artists were affected by the 2020 lockdown. The title was chosen as a play on the phrase, ‘starving artist.’
The skull is a universal motif seen in art throughout history, used to acknowledge our shared experience. The piece draws on a number of references from art history, including Edward Munch’s Scream, Harvey Ball s Smiley Face and Keith Haring s Radiant Baby.
