The Maid Fashion

The Maid is a limited edition giclee print by contemporary artist Soozy Lipsey. Printed onto 160gsm matt coated paper, each print is individually distressed with folds, holes and rips.

For The Maid, Lipsey plays with a traditional Dutch renaissance portrait. Over the portrait of an old maid, trussed up in white ruff and cap, Lipsey adds a big, pink bubblegum bubble. Whimsical and fun, the juxtapositions of past and present, high brown and pop, are brilliantly balanced. Lipsey finishes the piece by hand distressing the paper with folds holes and rips, for an air of antiquity and authenticity.

Known for her reworkings of the traditional, adding heavy doses of the fantastical, the surreal and the uncanny to familiar imagery, Lipsey is one to watch in contemporary printmaking.
