This piece is from Richard Berner’s 2023 solo show at Enter Gallery, You Can Be Anything (*or Nothing). The show is a humorous exploration of the ambiguity of art and its capacity to mean everything to one person, and absolutely nothing to the next.

In Not Waving But Drowning, Berner uses his champ to muse on the human struggle and how constantly trying to swim can actually cause us to sink. Berner explains:

“There’s a loneliness to this piece. Often, we feel alone and isolated in our thoughts, when in fact, many of us feel the same things, have the same insecurities, and worry about the same things.”

This original artwork is created with ink and gouache on paper. It comes signed by the artist.

Please note this piece is framed in a 25mm black box frame with a 3cm float mount and regular glass.

Size (cm): 62 x 62
