Lead Belly is an anonymous contemporary artist whose work focuses primarily on presenting combinations of opposites to the observer, whether it be masculinity and femininity, aggression and passivity or love and hate.
My Boy Isaac is a prime example of Lead Belly s work. By representing two British boxers in the midst of battle, the image doctored to give them both boxing gloves made of flowers, Lead Belly contrasts the brutality of the boxing match with the fragility of the blooms.
Of the piece, the artist commented: For me, as a graphic device, the image of a boxing match is the ultimate spectacle. It has grace, intelligence, compassion and understanding.
