British art phenomenon Damien Hirst shot to fame after winning the Turner Prize in 1995. One of the YBAs (Young British Artists), Hirst remains contentious, impressing and shocking the art world in equal measure with his provocative spirit and anarchic aplomb.
Hirst first discovered the technique for spin paintings while watching Blue Peter as a child, but it wasn’t until 1992 that he first started experimenting with the technique.Â
Hirst was drawn to the spin painting technique for its accessibility, which shows that anyone can be an artist. He has also stated that for him, the circular, chaotic movement of each piece represents life itself.
This original piece features four of Hirst’s seminal spin paintings mounted in one frame and signed on the reverse.
