Proctolin is an instantly-recognisable and highly-covetable spot painting from notorious British artist and YBA, Damien Hirst.
This piece is from Hirst’s pharmaceutical range of spot paintings, which was the very first time he played with colour in this way, and was when he bid goodbye to any problems he had previously had working with colour.
Hirst states: ‘Mathematically, with the spot works, I probably discovered the most fundamentally important thing in any kind of art. Which is the harmony of where colour can exist on its own, interacting with colours in a perfect format.’
Proctolin is a silkscreen print with diamond dust on Somerset Satin. From a limited edition of 150, the piece comes framed in a white box frame, signed and numbered by Hirst.
