This piece is from Richard Berner’s 2023 solo show at Enter Gallery, You Can Be Anything (*or Nothing). The show is an exploration of the ambiguity of art and its capacity to mean everything to one person, and absolutely nothing to the next.
In this piece, Berner presents us with his interpretation of the classic memento mori – a work of art designed to remind us of the inevitability of death. By juxtaposing light and dark to create the lines and contours of his skull, Berner explores how life is punctuated by hope and despair.
