Over the years, Banksy has used the vermin as a symbolic tool for exploring the flaws of the human race, and as a symbol to represent himself and other graffiti artists aka those widely considered ‘pests’, who emerge at night, and are hunted down by the authorities. By giving the rat a voice, Banksy speaks up on behalf of the oppressed. Â
Executed in his signature monochrome stencil style with a pop of red, the piece both spreads love, and evokes the pain and suffering it can cause.
