This piece is from Peter Blake s Found Art series and is inspired by one of the earliest tenets of Pop Art, the idea that even the most basic everyday object can be transformed into fine art. Rather than opting to depict major commercial brands like Warhol, Blake uses found objects that most would cast aside.
In this series, Blake has used digital technology to enlarge the objects that are the focus of the piece, encouraging us to consider them in a different light. Found Art: To a Darling Child is a delicate image created from Blake s collection of Victorian and Edwardian occasion cards, which we ve also seen him use in V is for Valentine and Faith, Hope and Charity. The piece demonstrates that who we love and how we show our affection today, hasn t really altered in over one hundred years.
