This piece is from Sarah Hardacre s collection exploring the changing roles of women within working class society. By juxtaposing images of women sourced from second-hand gentlemen s magazines against the industrial backdrop of her hometown of Salford, the artist reflects on masculinity and femininity and notions of public and private space.
Each piece in the collection presents an intriguing contrast between the dehumanising surroundings of Salford s post-industrial landscape, with the very human act of physical sensuality and eroticism. While the government may be able to control the workplace and housing estates, it can never control what goes on behind closed doors.
This silkscreen print is from a limited edition of 20, signed, titled and numbered by the artist.
