British art phenomenon Damien Hirst shot to fame after winning the Turner Prize in 1995. One of the YBAs (Young British Artists), Hirst remains contentious, impressing and shocking the art world in equal measure with his provocative spirit and anarchic aplomb.

Control H9-8 is from ‘The Virtues’, a continuation of Hirst’s Cherry Blossom series. Each print is named after one of The Eight Virtues of Bushidō – Justice, Courage, Mercy, Politeness, Honesty, Honour, Loyalty, and Control.

Hirst has been fascinated by cherry blossoms since watching his mother paint the subject when he was a child. He devoted two years to working on this series, which saw him take on a much more painterly approach, referencing Impressionism, Pointillism, and Action Painting.

This diasec-mounted giclée print on aluminium composite panel is from a limited edition of 862.

Size (cm): 120 x 96
