This original artwork has been created especially for The Mix – Enter Gallery’s 2024 group show of original artworks from a selection of our artists. Â
Gavin Mitchell is a contemporary artist known for taking found images from Eastern and Western culture and combining them to create new worlds and narratives.Â
Mitchell’s original piece captures a quote written by best-selling author Donna Tartt in her novel, The Goldfinch. The quote warns against the pursuit of beauty, which is transient, and instead suggests we discover what’s right for us by being true to ourselves and following our hearts. Â
Juxtaposed against the gold background and lettering, Mitchell portrays the subtle profile of a woman’s face. By presenting the woman as almost see through, the artist urges us to look beyond outward appearances to the true beauty that lies beneath. Â
This original collage is layered onto acrylic and gold leaf. It comes framed in a hand-stained wood box frame and signed by the artist. Â
