Arnett s flamboyant artworks are created in homage to her passion for the exotic, and her formative years spent living and travelling in tropical climes.
Bathing Beauties is Arnett’s ode to the sea, and a call to listen to it and what it can teach us. Her bathers are presented like statues, faded and hanging in a moment. Their underwater world will survive long after humans have disappeared.
The piece is inspired by a poem by Pablo Neruda:
‘I need the sea because it teaches me.
I don’t know if I learn music or awareness,
if it’s a single wave or its vast existence,
or only its harsh voice or its shining
suggestion of fishes and ships.
The fact is that until I fall asleep,
in some magnetic way I move in
the university of the waves.’
This giclée print is hand-finished with gold leaf and diamond dust. From a limited edition of 5, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
