The late Jamie Reid is an iconic British artist, known as the artistic mastermind behind the visual style of the Sex Pistols. Reid is most famous for subverting portraiture of political figureheads, most notably piercing the lip of Queen Elizabeth II with a safety pin.
This piece hails from Reid’s 2011 2012 show, Ragged Kingdom, and expresses the distaste for Margaret Thatcher that permeated many of his most iconic works. Here, Thatcher is captured in a balaclava, signifying the many crimes she inflicted on the people of the UK.Â
