Caroline Chinakwe is a mixed media artist known for powerful and unapologetic art that captures the beauty found in black culture and style.
This piece hails from Chinakwe’s While I’m On Pause series, in which she pays tribute to the ‘flamboyance and fearlessness’ of artists like Erykah Badu, and Josephine Baker who, ‘use what they wear on the outside to show how they feel about themselves on the inside.’
Each work in the collection is an explosion of narrative and colour, characterised by different textures, finishes, and of course, her signature bees. Chinakwe explains that she includes her bee motif as, ‘a personal reminder to love fashion and love beauty, but also to love and respect nature in the things I do, and create.’
This giclée print is hand-finished with acrylic paint and Swarovski crystal embellishments. From a limited edition of 20, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
