This original artwork has been created especially for The Mix – Enter Gallery’s 2024 group show of original artworks from a selection of our artists.

In The Lost is Truth That Can’t Be Won, contemporary artist, Magnus Gjoen blends classical and contemporary elements to create an artwork with a compelling visual narrative.

The skull at the centre of the piece acts as a momento mori, symbolising the inevitability of death and destruction. By surrounding the skull with falling bodies, Gjoen offers a powerful reference to Flemish artist, Peter Paul Rubens’ work, Fall of the Damned.

Overseeing the scene is Neptune, God of the Sea – a symbol that urges up to consider the contrast between how things appear on the surface and hidden realities. The artwork is a thoughtful exploration of the transient nature of truth, power, and morality in a world where everything is not always as it seems.
