David Spiller is known for his graphic depictions of beloved cartoon characters. He employs a blend of Pop Art sensibilities, Art Brut techniques, doodles and scribbled phrases to convey hopeful messages, musing on the wonder of love.
Of his work, Spiller said: ‘I want to make paintings that put some magic on the wall. Some of them are straightforward things. Some are wild things. But underneath, it says I love you.’
His charming mission is perfectly demonstrated in this pair of prints, which depict love-term lovers Mickey and Minnie Mouse gazing at one another, their smiling faces surrounded by sweet nothings and lyrics from love songs.
These two 25-colour silkscreen prints are from a limited edition of 95. Both prints have hand-torn edges and are embossed by Spiller’s estate. Each print is also signed by his wife and son.
