Colour Splat Cloud (Black) signals a new direction in the work of Young British Artist, Ian Davenport. Rising to fame in the 1990s, alongside the likes of Damian Hirst and Marc Quinn, Davenport became known for an openness to materials and a kinaesthetic approach to process. Today, the artist works with thick layers of household paint to create his Colour Splat Cloud series.

In this limited edition print translation of a hand-painted original, a mass of multicoloured paint-ball splashes are pummelled against a black backdrop, viscous drips dribbling downwards to create movement and vivacity. Suggesting new futures for the long-standing tradition of abstract expressionism, Colour Splat Cloud (Black) trails a blaze for contemporary visual art.
