London-based artist, Gavin Mitchell reworks found objects using photography, collage and print, to explore the relationship between East and West.

This piece is from Mitchell’s East Meets West series, in which he pays homage to Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art, dating back to the 17th century, which explores themes of female beauty, erotica and folk tales.

Where the original pieces explored the increasingly hedonistic lifestyles of the merchant classes, Mitchell’s series considers the influence of western trends on the east. In this piece, his geisha enjoy a friendly game of Twister.

This pigment print with deckled edges is hand-finished with gold and metal leaf, and coated with UV protective varnish. From a limited edition of 45, the piece is signed and numbered by the artist.
