To create his monologues of the soul , Mateo paints his portraits onto ornamental rugs, seamlessly fusing the carpet s design with the features of the subject. In moving the rugs from their usual place on the floor, to a vertical position on the wall, each artwork is a powerful celebration of the strength and complexity of women.
Mateo explains: I try to represent the essence and soul of the feminine. She is nobody and at the same time everybody.
From a limited edition of 30, each giclée print is finished with deckled edges and comes signed and numbered by the artist.Â
