Contemporary artist, Mark Powell creates intricate hand-drawn portraits on found antique documentation using just a standard Bic Biro. While there is rarely a connection between his subject and chosen canvas, Powell explains that: They are chosen to complement each other, and I hope lead the viewer to wonder, and maybe create, a shared history for the two.

For this piece, Powell has drawn his subject onto envelopes and correspondence sent between England and Germany during the first world war. This evocative piece leads us to ponder who was writing these letters, and what became of them?
